Happy Fall!

There’s never a dull moment here at Myrtle Market & Cidery as we keep moving closer to our dream of creating a true countryside destination where you can sip, shop, and soak in the scenery. Here’s a little update on what’s been happening around the farm:

🌱 Progress on the Land

Our orchard is looking great! Apple picking season is in full swing, and we’ve been busy gathering crisp, fresh apples from our trees. At the same time, we’ve been rolling up our sleeves to clear weeds and tidy up the lot, making space for the next stages of development. Every little bit of progress brings us closer to welcoming you here.

🚛 Spreading the Word

If you’ve been driving through the area, you may have spotted our freshly wrapped truck and trailer! Decked out with our Myrtle Market & Cidery logos, they’re now rolling billboards, helping us spread the word wherever the road takes us.

🏛️ Upcoming Council Meeting

On September 15, we’ll be at Township of Scugog Council for an important meeting about on-farm diversified use. This is a big step in our journey toward bringing Myrtle Market & Cidery to life, and we’re optimistic about the path ahead. We’ll keep you updated as we move through the process—your support means everything to us.

We’re excited about what’s ahead and so grateful for the encouragement we’ve received from our community. Every apple picked, every mile driven with our logo, and every council meeting brings us one step closer to opening our doors. Stay tuned—there’s lots more to come!

Cheers from our family here at Myrtle Market & Cidery!!

Growing an apple orchard from scratch…

2020 was a year like no other and one we will never forget. It was the year most of us had lots of time on our hands. We spent that time researching apple trees and what would work or not work in our climate and in our soil. There is so much information and we were out of out element. The nurseries were great to work with and answered our many, many questions. After much research and even more research, we placed our orders very first order for 1,200 baby apple trees in the summer of 2020 with an expected delivery date of March or April 2021.

In early April 2021, we pickup our order and it was HUGE!! Now we needed help. We sent out a call for help to all of friends and family and despite all the craziness going on in the world, they showed up. We knew we could all work safety far apart in a field and being outside. We are so grateful for everyone that helped us plant all those trees. In one day, we planted almost 1,200 trees. It was an amazing fun day, we brought out some food and it was just great to get everyone together after a long time apart…

Our Journey Begins…

We started this journey in 2016. Since then we have sought advice, planted a 5 acre apple orchard, planted over 4,000 Christmas trees, met with our local representatives from government and had many environmental consultations and reports. We even had the official well drilled for our future building. We are getting very, very close to building. Our goal is to start building asap but realistically, we are looking at building in 2025 will a plan opening in fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
